Translation and Accreditation Organisations

NAATI - The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters [NAATI] was introduced by Australia's federal government in 1977 to set standards in a previously unregulated and often poorly understood field of Translating and Interpreting. It was charged with setting accreditation levels for translators and interpreters, and promoting the use of accredited interpreters and translators throughout the community and particularly in public sector work.

NAATI adopted an imaginative system of hierarchical accreditation levels – it is the only system of accreditation in the world that recognised all areas of translation and interpreting work, from language aids, through paraprofessional and professional interpreters and translators to international conference interpreters and technical translators (see www.naati.com.au).

Imaginatively, this accreditation system included not only international languages (it now covers nearly 60 such languages), but also Australia's indigenous languages and Auslan - Australian Sign Language. Some other countries have in various ways adopted part of the NAATI model, which stands as a significant innovation and area of excellence in the international Translating and Interpreting field.

The credentials of contracted translators are of supreme importance for Meaningful Exchange: we source translators who have the highest levels of accreditation, for example we contract a significant number of the Australian translators accredited at the NAATI Advanced Translator level - the level for technical translation. And internationally we source similarly credentialed translators, preferring those with formal training and experience in the diverse fields in which we translate.

We have a record of servicing clients translation needs across many technical areas, from medical research through contracts and technical agreements to company reports. We also have considerable experience in administrative and educational translations. And our translation managers can give advice on localisation needs and text suitability. It is through working with the best credentialed professional translators that we can give you satisfaction in servicing your technical translation needs.
